UCAS personal statements now use three structured questions:

  1. Why do you want to study this course or subject?
  2. How have your qualifications and studies helped you prepare?
  3. What else have you done outside formal education, and why are those experiences useful?

The three answers share an overall limit of 4,000 characters and are considered together.

A useful starting process is:

  • List your genuine reasons for wanting to study law.
  • Identify academic experiences that developed relevant skills.
  • Record reading, work, volunteering, responsibilities or activities outside lessons.
  • Explain what you learned rather than simply listing achievements.
  • Connect each example clearly to your readiness to study law.
  • Remove repetition across the three answers.
  • Keep the writing personal, accurate and in your own voice.

Do not post your complete statement publicly. Members may discuss approaches and offer general feedback, but nobody should write application content for another person or provide text to be submitted as their work.

Which of the three questions are you finding hardest to plan?
