Free Official LNAT Resources

FREE AND OFFICIAL

Official LNAT resources

Start with reliable, free material provided by the LNAT Consortium.

Use the official tutorial, simulated test, practice papers, sample essays and preparation guidance before deciding whether you need any additional resources.

The best order to use these resources

If you are just beginning, work through the following steps in order.

STEP 1

Learn the current test format

Begin by understanding what each section asks you to do, how long you have and what happens when you move from Section A to Section B.

The official format currently consists of a multiple-choice section based on argumentative passages, followed by a written essay section. Always check the official page for the latest information.

STEP 2

Complete the onscreen tutorial

Use the official tutorial before attempting the simulated test. It introduces the controls and screen features you may encounter at the test centre.

The official website advises candidates to review the tutorial in advance, including functionality introduced from 2026.

STEP 3

Try the official simulated test

The browser-based simulation is intended to reflect how the LNAT appears onscreen at the test centre. Use it initially to become familiar with the experience, rather than worrying about achieving a particular score.

The sample test can be taken more than once. On your first attempt, note which skills and question types cause the greatest difficulty.

STEP 4

Use the downloadable practice papers

The official practice page provides two practice papers in PDF and RTF formats, together with commentary and marking information.

  • Practice test paper 1
  • Practice test paper 2
  • Practice-test commentary
  • Practice-test marking scheme

After answering the questions, spend time understanding why each incorrect option was wrong. Careful review is usually more useful than simply recording the final score.

STEP 5

Study the official hints and tips

The official guidance includes advice for both multiple-choice questions and essays. It explains the importance of reading precisely, relying on the passage rather than outside knowledge, managing time and attempting every question.

STEP 6

Practise Section B with sample essays

The official sample-essay page provides example questions, suggested reading and sample answers to selected questions.

Practise forming a clear position, presenting supporting reasons, considering a serious counterargument and answering the precise question asked.
